Being an newbie RC Helicopter pilot isn't always easy. I should know!
I started to "try" and fly RC helicopters in September 2010 and decided to document my learning curve for others to benefit (and as therapy for myself).
Everything on this blog is written first hand and I hope it can help others like me to get into the RC Helicopter hobby easier and smoother.
I welcome you to use the feedback form to send me any ideas/info/tips/news and I'll be delighted to share it with our readers (as long as it helps our hobby grow).
Fly safely and may you always land skids down,
The past months had been busy months. I##Q##ve focused on practice and tuning of how comfortable I feel with my new Goblin 700 in different orientations. I have done some hardware changes (switched the servos to high voltage and the ESC to 180 Amps along with changing the motor to an Align 750MX motor). I […]
After flying my good old Trex 550E for nearly a year I’ve decided to take the next step and get a 700 size Heli. It’s not an easy decision as costs are considerably higher – blades, parts and batteries (now I’ll need two packs per flight) are much more expensive then the 550. Although it’s […]
As time progress, I keep practicing my Piroflips (for me they are considered the best lookng 3D maneuver). They are getting better. I still can’t do several in a row but I do have a much better control of the Heli during the maneuver and it’s phases (which isn’t simple). As I always look for new […]
I recently upgraded my Trex 550E DFC to use 550mm blades (using the Mavarik G5 Pro series which are awesome). These blades are great – super wide, super long and they give the heli amazing power pitch. A tail strike is a case in which the tail blades and main blades collide. Reading online on ways to […]
Over the past years I’ve been constantly reading, asking and talking to people and experts about what they consider to be the “perfect” Gyro (or Flybarless system) tape combo ever. I’ve talked to hundred of people (including 3D master participants and worldwide known pilots) and it seems that the Scotch 3M 4011 (red tape with […]
It’s been a while since I last wrote. Summer had come in and I’ve been extremely busy with work, kids and vacations lately so I apologize. During the past month I’ve took the decision to change my flybarless system from Microbeast beastX to Skookums SK720. The BeastX unit is really awesome and stable and I […]
If you are into the 3D Helicopter hobby you know as well as I do that crashes are bound to happen. Actually – everytime I don’t crash makes me feel happy and joy as I landed safely. When I do crash (and it happens) at least I know that it’s “part of the game”. For […]
Wow, I had such an exciting weekend! I’ve finally came up with the guts needed to try a piroflip in real life. Until now, I managed to do them on the simulator and felt pretty comfortable with them but I never had the guts to go ahead and try one in real life. On Saturday, […]
Tail boom support braces are great. Why? because they reduce vibrations, increase stability and makes your heli stiffer. Until now, I used to pay and order tail boom brace supports online – paying anything from 10$ to 25$ for a support piece (depending of it was from metal, carbon or from plastic). Lately I found […]
Went out to the field Yesterday with my Trex 550 (now DFC). I had a couple of nice flights (although I kept them tuned down as it was really windy). During the 3rd flight while I was about 12-15 meters up tin the air (around 40-50 feet) the engine suddenly stopped and silence took place […]
